*SacroSet:  2012 Top 5

New Year’s greetings to you all!  I hope you had an enjoyable 2012.  I’m happy to report that even though I was fake stabbed to death numerous times while playing Julius Caesar on stage, in the real world I had an injury-free 12 months!  And my radio show ALL KINDSA GIRLS is still going strong (check out the facebook page).  As always, 2012 was chock full of great movies, DVD’s, TV shows, records and books I thoroughly enjoyed watching, streaming, listening to and reading.  So, in a proud tradition that dates back to 1999, I humbly share my 2012 Top 5’s:

TOP 5 MOVIES
The Sessions (breathing lessons)
Headhunters (literally!)
Young Adult (you can’t go back)

TOP 5 DVD’S/WEB STREAMS
Pariah (AG indeed)

Point Blank (nurse nightmare)
Chronicle (growing pains)
Tomboy (boy’s life)

TOP 5 ALBUMS
Ignition- Shoes (Zion’s finest are back)
Falling Off The Sky- The dB’s (triumphant Tar Heels return)
Soundshine- David Myhr (merrymaking)

Sons of Anarchy Seasons 1-4 (something is rotten in Charming)
Hell On Wheels Season 1 (home on the range)

If you’d like to check out past Top 5 Lists, I’ve compiled them here:  http://ricktop5lists.blogspot.com/.  Please feel free to share your favorites from 2012- I’m always on the lookout for quality viewing, listening and reading material so it would be great to hear from you.  Here’s wishing you all the best in 2013!!

p.s.  Since sending out my Top 5's e-mail I've gotten three responses saying essentially the same thing:  "What about Homeland?  What is WRONG with you?!?"  Let me explain...  I really liked Homeland Season 1 but its exclusion from this list comes down to two things, one outside my control and the other totally my fault.  First, my expectations were impossibly high after hearing so much Homeland hype from friends, Entertainment Weekly, Aziz Ansari, etc.  Homeland would have to have been better than The Wire to measure up and as we know that is an enormously high bar.  Second, I watched the pivotal bunker episode on my laptop at Dallas-Ft. Worth airport during a flight delay.  Brody's got his thumb on the switch while Carrie is at his house accosting his daughter and over the PA I'm hearing a drawling announcement that the flight to Des Moine will be delayed 30 minutes.  I really screwed myself there.  Plus, already knowing that there was a Season 2 and that Brody is in it really put a damper on the suspense.  I really envy people like my friend Tim who watched the show when it first aired having no idea how everything would turn out.  At that time it was entirely plausible that Brody fulfills his mission and Carrie gets locked up- now that would have been a memorable finish!
